VOICES Voices from senior staff

Voices from senior staff №11

Tokyo Metropolitan University, Faculty of Administration, Liberal Arts Management Division [Recruited in April 22]

■Introducing my current job

In the department I currently belong to, the staff is divided into general affairs and accounting lines. I belong to the general affairs line, and am in charge of hiring procedures for part-time instructors who are in charge of classes, administrative procedures regarding temporary staff (part-time workers), and facility management.

■What has been difficult so far?

When I first started working, I was confused by the different document formats and administrative procedures from my previous job. Also, this year I have changed departments and my job has changed, so there are many things I am not used to yet, so I am constantly learning every day.

■What made you happy?

I was able to see the students I worked with at their graduation ceremonies looking so happy. At my previous workplace, I worked in a department called the Career Support Division, where I was in charge of organizing events to support student job hunting. I will never forget the smiles on the faces of the students at the graduation ceremony, who went through a lot of trouble and struggled to find a job.

■What do you usually keep in mind?

I always try to create a time schedule in my head as I work. However, my work almost never goes according to my ideal time schedule, so lately I've been trying to be flexible.

■What's the atmosphere like at work?

It's a bright and fun workplace, but everyone takes their work seriously. It's a vibrant workplace. Many of the staff members are very eager to learn, and they have a positive influence on me.

■What made you want to apply?

I became interested in what kind of higher education is offered in Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

■What is the difference between the image you had at the beginning and after joining the company?

I joined the company as an ``administrator,'' but when I learned that I would also be involved in external negotiations, coordination, and sales, I was surprised at the breadth of the job scope.

■What kind of work would you like to do in the future?

I haven't had much work experience since joining the company, so I'd like to try anything I can without worrying about it. I would like to be able to envision the job I want to do after I have been involved in a wide variety of tasks so that I can see the entire company.

■What are your future aspirations?

When I have a child and the child reaches the age where he or she is considering going to higher education, I would like to work to be able to recommend a school run by this corporation.

■A message to everyone aiming to become a corporate employee

Some people may think that the work of university and technical college staff consists mainly of administrative processing and counter work, but this is not the case. Employees of this corporation have experience in a variety of tasks, including human resources, accounting, general affairs, legal affairs, external negotiations, and coordination. If you are attracted to this, I think you are suitable for becoming an employee of this corporation. Furthermore, this corporation is still a young organization and is undergoing continuous reform. There is a good chance that young people will be involved in organizational reform and corporate management. If you have the ambition to try it out, we would love for you to become an employee of this corporation.
