N. Accounting Section, Administration Division, Arakawa Campus Administration Department. I (Male employee) [Recruited in April 23]
■Introducing my current job
Belongs to the accounting section of Tokyo Metropolitan University's Arakawa Campus (Faculty of Health and Welfare/Graduate School of Human Health Sciences), and is responsible for contracts and execution management related to construction such as facility repair and repair, contract and execution management related to facility maintenance and improvement plans, and utilities. The main duties include annual contract administration such as expenses, management of fixed assets (land and buildings), etc. This corporation has a facility division in the general affairs department on the Minami-Osawa campus as the corporate control department, but at other campuses, industrial and technical colleges, and technical colleges, administrative staff belonging to the general affairs section or the accounting section are in charge of facility management work. Regarding technical matters such as construction work, we receive guidance and support from technical staff belonging to the Facilities Division of the General Affairs Department.
■What has been difficult so far?
Within two months of joining the company, I had to break ground on the large-scale renovation work on the Arakawa Campus (three projects, totaling approximately 3 million yen) that was scheduled to take place this year. I myself worked in an office and had no knowledge of facilities or construction, so I had a lot of difficulty in calculating the planned contract amount and other tasks.
■What made you happy?
During the renovation of the auditorium's audio equipment, I was very happy and satisfied when the newly installed lighting and audio equipment control consoles were manufactured to the specifications I had proposed.
■What do you usually keep in mind?
Due to the nature of my work, I often come into contact with a variety of people, including not only students and faculty, but also vendors and government officials, so I am always conscious of responding honestly. In addition, I always keep an eye on not only my own duties, but also other duties within the division, and actively share information and confirm concerns.
■What's the atmosphere like at work?
The faculty and staff are all warm-hearted people, and it's a very comfortable work environment. There is also a large park nearby, which I like for its calm atmosphere.
■What made you want to apply?
From the beginning, I wanted to work in the education field, and after graduating from university, I worked as an administrator at a cram school, but as I became interested in university administration and management, I later became an employee at a private university. I changed my job. However, in terms of operation and management, I feel that the staff are still in a subordinate position to the faculty, and as public universities gradually become incorporated, the power of the staff will become even more important in terms of operation and management in the future. I started to pay attention to. At that time, I saw the company's recruitment information on its website and felt like I could make my dreams come true, so I decided to apply.
■What is the difference between the image you had at the beginning and after joining the company?
Prior to joining the corporation, I had experience working as an employee at a private university, and I found that compared to employees at private universities, employees at public universities have a higher level of publicity, transparency, and close interaction with the government. I thought that administrative skills would be required. It's not that it's different, but in reality, even just paperwork is far more complex than at a private university, and it was difficult to get used to it.
■What kind of work would you like to do in the future?
I would like to be involved in academic affairs and career support that only a university can offer, as well as industry-academia-government collaboration where I can support collaboration between companies and universities and support faculty members' research. In the future, I would like to gain experience in work that involves direct involvement in corporate operations and management, such as corporate planning.
■What are your future aspirations?
I would like to always maintain a broad perspective and strengthen my problem-finding and problem-solving abilities. At the same time, I would like to pursue the ideal role of an employee who plays the core role of a corporation.
■A message to everyone aiming to become a corporate employee
Jobs at corporations are diverse, and work locations vary, including Tokyo Metropolitan University, Industrial Technology University, and National College of Technology. I am sure that you will find a job that is rewarding.
