VOICES Voices from senior staff

Voices from senior staff №8

R. General Affairs Section, President's Office, Faculty of Administration, Tokyo Metropolitan University. K (Female employee) [Recruited in April 23]

■Introducing my current job

I am in charge of responding to surveys and questionnaires from external organizations, campus tours, Campus Voice (student opinion submissions), work experience programs for junior high school students, etc.

■What has been difficult so far?

This is a school basic survey submitted to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. It was difficult to compile the huge amount of data submitted by each department, including the number of students, faculty and staff, and the status of students after graduation. Since the data obtained from the basic school survey will be referenced in other surveys, we have repeatedly checked every detail to ensure there are no errors.

■What made you happy?

One of the high school students I gave a tour of the campus said, ``I want to enter Tokyo Metropolitan University!'' I look forward to the day when the students who enroll through my guidance will have a fulfilling campus life.

■What do you usually keep in mind?

When I have questions or face difficulties in my work, I try to first sort out the problem, research it myself, think about it, and then consult my seniors or superiors. By gathering information and organizing ideas, I am conscious of not only solving the problem at hand, but also accumulating knowledge.

■What's the atmosphere like at work?

There are many things you don't understand in your first year at the company, but I think it's a very easy place to work because the atmosphere makes it easy to ask questions and seek advice from your superiors and seniors, and receive detailed guidance and advice.

■What made you want to apply?

When I was a student, I heard stories from university staff and became interested in the work of university staff who support students, faculty, and the university as a whole behind the scenes. Although the public university corporation Tokyo Metropolitan University has only recently been incorporated, I applied because I wanted to take advantage of its connections with the Tokyo metropolitan area and the unique feature of having two universities and one technical college to be a part of building the corporation into the future.

■What is the difference between the image you had at the beginning and after joining the company?

I had a strong image of working at a counter or working at a desk, but the campus tour I'm currently in charge of requires 1 to 2 hours of walking around a vast campus, which is different from my image in that there are tasks that require physical strength. .

■What kind of work would you like to do in the future?

My current job involves a lot of interaction between staff members, so I would like to try a job where I interact with students and faculty.

■What are your future aspirations?

I want to do my best in my daily work, but I also want to be aware of trends in the corporation as a whole, the Tokyo metropolitan area, and the university industry, and work with an eye to the future.

■A message to everyone aiming to become a corporate employee

The higher education industry is facing various challenges such as a declining birthrate and internationalization, and is under pressure to reform. I would like to work with someone who can face challenges with enthusiasm and determination.
