A. Academic Affairs Section, Academic Affairs Division, Administration Department, Tokyo Metropolitan University. N (Female employee) [Recruited in April 24]
■Introducing my current job
I currently belong to the Academic Affairs Division and am in charge of the university-wide teaching curriculum. She mainly handles administrative work related to teaching training, nursing care experience, teaching license applications, and committee management. She is also involved in organizing the entrance ceremony and creating the timetable.
■What has been difficult so far?
I joined the Educational Affairs Division in April, which is the busy season, and had to deal with the counter and prepare guidance without knowing what was going on. Immediately after joining the company, I followed around the senior staff and learned the work through my body. Furthermore, since the Academic Affairs Division has many opportunities to interact with students, it is difficult to know how to respond appropriately. In particular, at first I was not able to properly warn students who did not follow the rules, and I was worried about what to do. However, now, with an eye on the students' social lives after graduation, I am making sure to give them proper guidance so that they can acquire the manners and common sense needed as working adults.
■What made you happy?
When I received a report from a student who went to the teaching practice saying that he had passed the teacher employment exam, I was as happy as if it were my own.
■What do you usually keep in mind?
I often receive inquiries from students regarding teaching licenses, but since the matter is related to obtaining qualifications, I do not immediately respond to questions that I do not understand, and I always make sure to clarify the rationale before responding.
■What's the atmosphere like at work?
All of the senior employees are friendly people, and when I have questions or concerns, they give me accurate advice, and I enjoy working every day.
■What made you want to apply?
I decided to become a university employee because I wanted to contribute to the world by being involved in the development of human resources who will be responsible for society in the future.
■What is the difference between the image you had at the beginning and after joining the company?
I thought it would be a laid-back workplace, but I spend a lot of time at the counter, and sometimes it's hard to sit down and work on my job. Furthermore, there are so many things to do at the beginning of the semester and at the end of the year that it feels like no matter how much time you have, it's not enough. I also had many opportunities to come into contact with legal provisions such as the Educational Personnel Licensing Act, which was very confusing at first.
■What kind of work would you like to do in the future?
I would like to utilize my knowledge and experience in academic affairs, which can be said to be the core of university and technical college affairs, to also take on the challenge of work directly related to corporate management.
■What are your future aspirations?
During this year, which is also my first year at the company, I have often worked by following precedent, but from now on I will try to think of more efficient and effective methods to improve my work. I would also like to take advantage of the corporate support system and work on self-development.
■A message to everyone aiming to become a corporate employee
The business of a corporation is wide-ranging, but I would like to work with someone who can put their full effort into any task and energize the organization.
